It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the Fifth CAA Conference to be held at Loughborough University. Our previous delegates will first notice a change in the size of the Programme and this is reflected in the size of this Proceedings document. This year we instigated a new referee process utilising ten experts from various institutions. With more high quality submissions than ever, the selection panel have created the largest ever programme. I would like to thank the selection panel for their efforts, and as interest for the delegate, name the institutions involved:
The conference is termed International and indeed continues to attract a strong international element. This year we have included papers from America, Australia, Belgium, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. This is indicative of the growing interest in the field of Computer Assisted Assessment and collectively offers a snap shot of CAA activity around the world in 2001.
In line with previous feedback we have included our high quality traditional academic papers, but diversified the programme with contributions from both commercial and non-profit organisations such as The Educational Testing Service (responsible for 11 million tests in 181 countries), The IMS Question and Test Interoperability Specification Group, and The British Standards Institution.
Do look out for our commercial exhibitors at the event, and our thanks go to Question Mark Computing for their generous sponsorship, helping to maintain our reputation of running a great evening event.
The conference is organised as part of our commitment to the national TLTP3 project, The Evaluation and Implementation of CAA. This project is in its final year and its success is demonstrated by the creation of the UK CAA Centre and the Blueprint for CAA. The project will deliver the Key Note speech. Welcome to the Conference. I hope you enjoy the event.
