Christine Ward is a self-employed consultant in the general area of post-16 education and training and with particular expertise in assessment.

Her early career was at City & Guilds, where she worked with subject committees on syllabus and test development and then in research and development on assessment techniques. After a career break she spent 18 years with Guildford Educational Services Ltd, working on a variety of projects related to post-16 education and training, but with an emphasis on qualifications and assessment.

Christine has been interested in the use of ICT in assessment since a project for the then Manpower Services Commission in 1991. Other CAA projects have included:

  • Advice to a major company in the financial services sector on implementing computer delivered objective testing
  • Participation in PepCAA, a European project to develop formative computer assisted assessment on psychology for teachers
  • Evaluation of vendors' systems for delivery of online tests for an awarding body
  • Drafting of BS7988, A Code of Practice for the use of Information Technology for the Delivery of Assessments (under the guidance of the BSI Working Group)
  • Management of a project to evaluate the computer-delivered assessments resulting from 18 pilot projects in the SOCRATES and LEONARDO programmes
  • Management of a small EU-funded LEONARDO project on Computer Assisted Assessment in the Workplace.
